I discovered a new (to me) yarn this Summer. Are you ever influenced by instagram to shop online? I saw someone’s post about this yarn and decided to check it out. I bought 2 skeins to start out with, then 3 more, then 4 more…..The first thing I completed was another moonshadow shawl. I used 3 skeins (2 black current and 1 fig), you can see a video of it at my instagram. I’m not sure if you can view it if you aren’t already logged in….
The second completed item was a cowl pattern called Flora Cowl, which I knit as a scarf using the color Azure, from Making Flora magazine. You can also find it here on Ravelry. I was really happy with how this turned out.
The yarn is a light fingering, 50% cotton and 50% lambswool and comes in many, many colors. I ordered it here.
I currently have several other projects being knitted up in this yarn. I’ve posted the photos in this order (color & pattern name)
Marsh : Strangling Vine Lace Scarf
Petal : Cat’s Paw Scarf
Fig : Old Shale Scarf
Mushroom : Silky Alpaca Lace Scarf
I also have 2 skeins of Conker that I’m up in the air about project wise. I’ve just added a few more skeins to my shopping cart…I’m only at the ‘I might order more’ stage however.
Hope all your knitting projects are bringing you joy!!
E has been gone to Summer camp this past week. J and I took a spur of the moment trip to a state park quite a distance east of us.
There are very few beaches in Colorado. Growing up in Michigan you tend to take going to the beach for granted. I miss the waves and birds often. It was nice to sit and watch pelicans and knit the afternoon away. I got another stamp in my Colorado Start Park passport too!
I’ll blog more about my Summer kitting in a few days. I was working on a scarf in this pattern while we were there.
Summer is flying by!! Does it feel like that to you?
I’m attempting to spend August getting reacquainted with my blog and blogging, so here we go!
I spent a good part of Spring planting hundreds of little pots of herbs and flowers, in the sewing room. It’s been fun to see what blooms and grows on the balcony. This summer I’m squeezing herbs in everywhere. I love the smells and the greenery. Some I’m pinching off the flowers to keep the herbs nice for cooking others I’m allowing to bloom. I have basils, thymes, rosemary, marjoram, chervil, chives, mints, sages, and oregenos everywhere. in between I’ve scattered violas and chamomile, zinnias, hyssop, forget-me-nots, pansies, sunflowers….all grown from seed. I did buy some of my herbs but many were also started from seed.
I’m also growing two edibles I’ve never had before, cucamelons and ground cherries!
I hope you enjoy these pictures I took just a few minutes ago..except for the bird, I took that a few days ago.
We had a lovely warm weekend and then a bunch of snow.
We had planned to rearrange bookcases and dressers through the house because we bought some new ones to replace things that are truly worn out. Instead we ran away to Rocky Mountain National Park to enjoy the snow there. We didn’t have any snow at our house at the time but that has changed.
I took the picture of the iridescent cloud on Sunday while enjoying coffee and the the 67 degree weather on our back deck.
Today it’s 12 and I took this picture of a bird talking to the bird feeder, through the window!
Jerry’s sister came for a visit last week, the week of my birthday..it was a week long party and I’m exhausted!!
We went places every day, much shopping and consuming of food occurred. We hung out with all the kids on various occasions and drank a dangerous amount of coffee.
It was a great week! I did squeeze in a little brioche knitting which I’ve just learned. The pin is from T, he got me 5 adorable pins (with some input from his mom) and Amber got me some makeup sponges that are too pretty to use and look sweet in the snow. The bunny is from Jerry’s sister and I treated myself to some herb plants!
Thank you, thank you for all the happy birthdays over at facebook. I’ve been off facebook for more than a year now so I don’t see what’s happening there. I appreciate the thought so much!!
I’ve been trying some pretty great recipes lately. I’ll be posting a few very soon.
PS Janet gave me my first lessons in oil painting while she was here…yet another hobby???!!!
Today I want to share a couple of things I recently sewed, I just finished one of these Saturday.
First I made a beautiful totebag….I bought a beautiful kit…as totebags go it’s a basic tote bag but this fabric….! I got the kit here. I bought the ‘fabric only’ kit but there are lots of helpful, one stop options. When you get the kit, hop over to the blog post with step by step how to sew a tote! I changed a few things, I used a rotary cutter and mat rather than make a pattern and changed the dimensions of my bag slightly. I even had enough spare fabric for a small, catnip filled toy for the girls…look at Opheila’s sneaky glare!!!
The other project is called ‘Quilt as You Go Thread Catcher‘ … or fabric and other notion holder. This one was a bit trickier, I made a few mistakes because I can’t take the time to be sure I know what the instructions say…I just look at the pictures…also my short term memory is well, very short!! The directions are very clear and this is not hard to make. It would have been much easier in a tidy sewing room with dedicated cutting, sewing, and pressing stations (just like the one I have upstairs that is buried in stuff) rather than the kitchen table.
I plan to make more of both things (I need another tote bag kit, I love the choices) but in the meantime, do you have any sewing blog tutorials you recommend? Please share a link in the comments section. I have lots of fabric to use up and maybe this is one way to start cleaning out the sewing room!!
Yep I’m still here. Its taken me several hours over two days to be able to re-learn how to get pictures from my camera to my computer (months and months of pictures)…resize and upload them and I now I hope to be able to post them here. I won’t go into details about trying to get back onto my blog when I couldn’t even remember how to find the log in page!
I’ve been thinking about this poor neglected blog a lot lately. I really miss taking pictures because I plan to share them, and planning little posts to put here. At the moment I’m trying to remember how I had time to do this regularly…it seems like that was someone else’s life. I’m not making any promises but I want to spend time doing things here a few times a week.
I’ve had several people ask about my webshop. It too is something I had and still have hopes of bringing back to life. I have a thought of aiming for April to kick things off there officially…this will be the place for updates. That it written in pencil for now.
I’m sharing just a few pictures today that caught my eye as I was clicking through nearly 2,000 pictures I imported from my camera. My hand actually went numb from clicking for so long. I discovered that something went wrong internally sometime in December so I need to take my camera in for a check up but I still have a LOT of pictures that aren’t too bad. These are unedited snaps I took in September and November.
At this point, our parents are doing quite well. I had gone to Michigan for a month last Spring to be on hand while Jerry’s dad recovered from a mild stroke. He’s had another since but again recovered quite well. He has since acquired a motorcycle and a puppy…
Our kids are doing very well and healthy also, we feel truly blessed.
I’ll be back with crafty things soon!!
Well Winter Break was very good and I turned the webshop back on … and found out I was locked out of my blog!! I’ve obviously fixed that but only to tell you that another (unexpected) break is ensuing.
I’m hopping on a flight tomorrow to spend time with close family while they recover from some unexpected health issues. At this point I’m not sure when I’ll be home and I won’t have a computer with me while I’m gone.
So, Hello…Goodbye, for now. Here are some pretty pictures I took today.
PS … prayers are appreciated and….I’d love to keep in touch with you over at Instagram!!
Barr Lake Edition :0)
What a crazy, disappointing, difficult week! A day out in nature was just what we needed. We discovered a new place to us and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The day was beautiful and the location perfect! As you can see E is almost as tall as his dad now… when did that happen?
I hope these pictures bring you peace and enjoyment!
PS – I will not be approving any direct political commentary here.
I’m planning a Winter Break! After nearly twelve years running my little online craft business, it’s time to refit for the future and accommodate some changes in our lives since the early days… I will continue to take online orders through November 22, 2016. We will return, refreshed, early Spring 2017!
I’ll still be blogging… in fact watch this space for sneak peaks, tutorials, and giveaways during the break!
Here are a few birds I’ve observed completely enjoying the beautiful Autumn we’ve been having this week!
Autumn colors are everywhere. These pictures were taken more than a week ago, things are even brighter now and the mountain tops have received some new snow!
Happy Autumn to you, or Spring as the case may be :0)
